Jo Ellis

Jo trained as a graphic designer and illustrator, now living in Hampshire. Since technology has dominated the creative process of design, she has enjoyed returning to painting which is where she began. Relishing the freedom and opportunity to express herself, explore ideas and ‘get her hands dirty’ again.

“My work is about experiencing a place not about representing it; my emotional response to where I am and what I am looking at are an important part of creating a work – something unexpected then often reveals itself in the process of working.”

Attracted to the natural world, she finds inspiration in abstracting subject matter from landscapes, seascapes, natural objects and figures. Firstly with drawing and then into paint, working in acrylics, oils and mixed media – with drawing and expressive mark making at the core.

She is one of ‘Just Four Contemporary Artists’ and has exhibited her work at a number of venues including The Gallery in Cork Street; The Affordable Art Fair, Bristol; The Mall Galleries, London; The Wykeham Gallery, Stockbridge; The Flint Gallery, Norfolk; The St Ives Society of Artists, Cornwall; The Padstow Gallery, Cornwall and Nadia Waterfield Fine Art, Stockbridge.
