Angelica Kauffman is one of the more well-known women artists from the period of the “Old Masters”, but her life and work are extraordinary, and anything but old and fusty!
Born in Switzerland in 1741, Kauffman was celebrated by artists and art academies across Europe before settling in Britain in 1766. Here she was equally feted, becoming one of the founding artists of the Royal Academy of Arts in London, but also provoking the jealousy of some of her male colleagues.
Join the art historian Dr Michael Paraskos, of Imperial College London, to discover more about this fascinating and talented artist, in a talk organised to coincide with the exhibition of Angelica Kauffman’s work at the Royal Academy in London.
