Dawn Stacey originally studied for a Textile Design diploma and later also went onto graduate with an MA in Sequential Illustration.
Paintings have been purchased for the Brighton Hospital Trust and St.Wilfrid’s Hospice collections. Her work has been exhibited widely over perhaps 30 years and been published by John Lewis and Woodmansterne.
She paints full time in her studio, where she gathers inspiration from walks around perhaps woodlands, lakes and nature reserves, reflections on the water, cracked ice, frozen leaves, mist in woods or golden light can inform a body of work. Some years ago Dawn became interested in flowers and plants from her garden and allotment and went into to study for a city of Guilds in Horticulture. This has helped inform her work, bringing in details from a botanical influence with more of a knowledge of butterflies, insects and butterflies.
Birds feature a lot in her paintings, particularly a heron often seen while out walking on her local nature reserve where mallards, moorhens, egrets or swans can be seen.
The final piece often has a mysterious quiet, dreamlike timeless quality achieved with layers of acrylic surfaces, sometimes revealing an image or texture.
