www.johnmackinlayartist.comJohn Mackinlay grew up in India, surrounded by powerful sunlight and bright landscapes. He spent 29 years in the British Army and in his spare time drew and painted in several tropical places. In 2006 he joined an informal group led by Anthea Stilwell in Hampshire and began to paint in a bolder and more expressive manner. He sketches outside with charcoal and water-based paints and in the studio makes several more versions in acrylics - to convey the sense of a place, as well as the drama and the exhilaration of colour.
