London based artist Venetia Berry (b. 1993) works mainly in painting, as well as ceramics and printmaking. Known for her richly layered depictions of females, her scenes feel ethereal and dreamlike. Taking reference from Cezanne’s Bathers, Berry nods towards the artists and themes of the past. However, as a woman, she aims to sensitively reflect the nature of femininity within these bodies, reclaiming the female form and conveying the sense of intimacy that women find within each other.
Venetia is drawn to the repetitive and meditative nature of ceramics, exploring playfulness and negative shapes through this ancient art form.
Venetia Berry studied painting at the Leith School of Art, Edinburgh (2012-2014) and at the Royal Drawing School, London on the Drawing Intensive Year (2015-2016). She was an artist in residence at Villa Lena, Italy (2021). She is also Co-Founder of Sol Creative Retreats.
