At what point in your life did you decide to become an artist?
I think I was an artist right through childhood and beyond, always making things and writing; I don’t think it was ever a conscious decision.
Who are your biggest influences in art?
The biggest influences on my work are the un-named artists and craftsmen from long-ago civilisations whose objects I get to draw and love in museums.
When you are not sculpting, what do you enjoy doing the most?
When I’m not sculpting, which I do mostly outdoors at my workshop, I enjoy being warm and dry at home with my 10 year old son. I love walking the fields and hills near home with my lurcher, Mabel, and that’s when my head’s often in a still enough mood for new ideas to germinate.
What music you enjoy listening to?
I don’t listen to music much, I’m a radio head and have a radio on wherever I am. Often LBC or Talk Radio for company but the current news has me switching to Radio 3 a lot, soooo much more peaceful!
